Phonemic Awareness
Phonemic awareness is identifying and manipulating individual sounds within a word. It is the ability to manipulate oral speech, by understanding the smallest units of sound. Phonemic awareness activities include isolation, blending, segmenting, addition, deletion, and substitution. These are all important instruction activities readers must be able to do, to become better readers.
